The many types of websites and their purposes are quite unique and they are the heart and soul of the Internet. Imagine the Web having one type of website and that's it. It would be a rather boring place and the information would seem rather mundane. That is why there are many types of websites so that individuals and businesses can be unique in an online world.

The first type of website is the brochure site. The information that is found within the pages is a lot like what is found in a brochure. They can be search engine optimized, but their impact may be rather small. This type of website is rather quick to put together as well.

The second type is what excites many visitors and that is the flash website. Visitors do, however, need to have the flash plug-in installed on their computer in order to see animated graphics and other media. These sites frequently have pictures, video, and music. When mixed with HTML, the site can be properly optimized for search engines to index. A site that is strictly flash is not going to be indexed well. It is this type of site that can be interactive and keep the attention of visitors.

The third type is Content Management Systems, also known as CMS. Site owners can have control over their content when they need to control it. It is as easy as typing something into Microsoft Word, plugging it into the CMS, and then it automatically being turned to HTML, or Internet language. Databases can be implemented so that a lot of data can be stored and changed when need be.

Also in regards to CMS, there are pre-built websites that are able to be easily converted into a functional site for a business. This type, however, does not always include flash animation, but can still be optimized with proper landing page content. The pre-built can also help avoid development costs for those on a budget. This can be the ideal way to build a functional and attractive website quickly, but can be time consuming.

The eCommerce website makes up the fourth option and is the ideal option for those selling products online. The optimization and content usually comes with product descriptions. There is then the fact that items can be added to a shopping cart and then an actual secure checkout process takes place to make the online purchase. There are some pre-built websites that allow for eCommerce solutions, but this may interfere with invoicing and other reporting options.

Another area of eCommerce sites that needs to be recognized is that an eCommerce package is a must in order to customize and streamline the process. With so many packages available, comparison is a must in order to make sure certain needs are met.

The many types of websites and their purposes are out there for a reason. Specific needs are able to be met, so choosing the correct option can mean a lot financially. Choosing the wrong option can mean a lot of earning potential may be lost, although the market may be starving for what the website could offer.
