When a NYC chiropractor explains Nutrition Response Testing, he or she will first talk about the basic principle of chiropractics. This alternative health care approach focuses on holistic healing. There is a great deal of emphasis placed on the well-being of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system.

Typical conditions include sporting injuries, herniated discs, lower back pain, pinched nerves, headaches, and neck pain. Included in the holistic approach, a chiropractor will also take into account the patient's lifestyle and nutritional imbalances. Many people neglect their nutritional needs due to the stress and strains of everyday life.

In order for the human body to function at its peak, it needs to be fed the right foods. Many of us think we are eating correctly when, in fact, we are not. Even if we eat healthy foods, we may not be getting the balance right. This can cause symptoms of a nutritional imbalance.

These symptoms include chronic fatigue, depression, sudden weight gain, migraines and other headaches, high blood pressure, stress, heart conditions, and many more. Nutrition Response Testing (NRT) is a non-invasive method of calculating specific dietary imbalances. Once these have been established, a chiropractor can design a correct diet and appropriate nutritional supplements.

NRT is a relatively new method which provides an insight into the body's own 'computer' to detect any deficiencies. This is done through acupuncture points, muscle testing, and neurological reflex testing. It is basically an offshoot of Applied Kinesiology, which is a diagnostic system used by medical physicians, chiropractors, naturopaths, acupuncturists, homeopaths and other alternative health care practitioners.

NRT is based on the fact that the body functions through an intricate network of electric and chemical transmitters. The spinal column and the nervous system enable these to travel to and from the brain. The nervous system and the brain control every organ in the body. In addition, every single muscle is connected to the nervous system.

If a breakdown in this messaging system occurs, muscles will become weak. While NRT uses a lot of Applied Kinesiology's testing principles, its diagnostic methods are different. NRT carries an underlying principle that a nutritional imbalance can cause many unpleasant symptoms. When the problem has been pin-pointed and the body's computer is back on track, the symptoms can clear up naturally.

For example, say the liver or kidneys display active reflexes. The chiropractor, who has an extensive knowledge of nutrition, can devise a supplement schedule that is specific to those organs. If the patient follows the plan exactly as formulated, the problematic reflexes will revert to normal strength. The liver or kidneys can then begin to function properly, and the patient will become healthy.

NRT can be beneficial for many medical problems. These include fungal infections, weak immune systems, food allergies, fatigue (chronic, extreme or severe), digestive problems, skin problems, and parasite infestations. It can be defined as an investigation of certain parts of the body's surface to identify an imbalance which can be corrected with an appropriate diet and supplements. This is what is meant when a NYC chiropractor explains Nutrition Response Testing.
